Mallitilkku suljettuna neuleena. Swatching in the round.
Lähes kaikissa ohjeissani kehotan neulomaan mallitilkun suljettuna neuleena. Miksi ja miten tämä tapahtuu?
Neuletiheydestä:
Varaa aikaa mallitilkun neulomiselle. Neule on suunniteltu ja ohjeen silmukkamäärät laskettu tietylle neuletiheydelle. Neuletiheyden tarkistaminen ja vertaaminen mallitilkun avulla ohjeen neuletiheyteen on lopputuloksen kannalta ratkaisevaa. Voit sovittaa käsialaasi ohjeen neuletiheyteen esimerkiksi puikkokokoa vaihtamalla.
Mallitilkun neulominen:
Malli tilkku on yleensä kooltaan vähintään 10 cm x 10 cm ja sitä reunustaa aina oikein neuleella tehdyt kehykset. Laske montako silmukkaa tarvitset mallitilkkuun. Katso langan vyötteestä tai neuleohjeesta montako silmukkaa sen mukaan mahtuu 10 cm:lle, esim. 22 s. Luo lisäksi muutama lisäsilmukka (esim. 8 s) mittaamisvaraa. Luo vielä silmukat (esim. 5+5) mallitilkun kehyksiä varten. = 40 s (5 s + 22 s + 8 s + 5 s.)Neulo ensin mallitilkun alareuna, esim. 5 krs:ta aina oikein neuletta. Kun kehyksen alareuna on valmis, jatka aina oikein neuletta työn molemmissa reunoissa (5 s + 5 s), mutta neulo jatkossa työn keskellä (30 s) sileää neuletta tai mallineuletta riippuen siitä kumpaa mittaat.
Huomioi, että käsialasi on erilainen suljetussa ja tasoneuleessa. Mikäli työ neulotaan suljettuna neuleena, neulo myös mallitilkku suljettuna neuleena. Sinun ei tarvitse neuloa todellisuudessa suljettua neuletta, vaan voi neuloa yhden sivun ja toisen sivun juoksuttaa lankaan. Pidä kuitenkin huoli että langanjuoksu ei jää kiristämään. Kun työn korkeus on n. 10 cm, lopeta sileän neuleen / mallineuleen neulominen ja neulo kehyksen viimeinen sivu aina oikein neuleella, n. 5 krs. Katkaise lanka ja päättele löyhästi. Viimeistele mallitilkku kostuttamalla ja blokkkaamalla. Mittaa neuletiheys vasta blokkaamisen jälkeen.
Neuletiheyden mittaaminen:
Aseta mittanauha rivin mukaisesti ja laske montako silmukkaa on 10 cm matkalla. Laske myös puolikkaat silmukat (esim. 22,5 s). Mittaa silmukkamäärä vähintään kolmesta eri kohdasta ja laske näistä keskiarvo, niin saat tietää neuletiheyden (Esim. 22.5 s, 24 s ja 23 s mitattuna mallitilkun yläosasta, keskivaiheilta ja alaosasta. Laske silmukkamäärät yhteen ja jaa kolmella = 23.1 silmukkaa. Pyöristää lähimpään puolikkaaseen = neuletiheys on 23s / 10cm. Laske samaa kaavaa käyttäen montaka krs:a on 10cm matkalla. Vertaa saamiasi lukuja ohjeessa annettuun neuletiheyteen. Täsmäävätkö luvut? Voit sovittaa käsialaasi tiukemmaksi vaihtamalla astetta pienempiin puikkoihin. Vastaavasti löyhemmän käsialan saat hieman paksummilla puikoilla. Aloita neuleen tekeminen vasta kuin neuletiheys täsmää!
In almost all of my patterns, I recommend swatching in the round. Why and how do you do it?
About gauge:
Take time to swatch for gauge. The pattern has a set gauge for the stitch count and row count. Correct gauge gives the knitter results like those in the photos. Going up or down needle size than stated in the pattern is a way to effect knitting tension. Remember to work the swatch in the round if the pattern is in the round. Most of us work our stitches at a slightly different gauge and tension depending are we knitting or purling.
Swatching:
A minimum of 4" x 4" of interior st pattern bordered with a few rows or side sts of garter st works best. Start by calculating how many sts to CO for the swatch. See the yarns label or the knit instructions for how many sts it take to create 4". Example: 22 sts. Add a minimum of 25 percent of
this st count in sts to give enough space to measure. Use some of these extra sts to create a garter st edge on each side of the pattern sts.
Make a bottom garter st border of about five rows. Work the st pattern with the garter st edges until the piece measures at least 4" in rows.
(Swatching in the round: Knit across to eor. Slide the sts down the needle to the other end. Float the yarn across the WS, taking care that the float is long enough for the swatch to lay flat without the sides pulling in.)
Finish the swatch with several rows of garter sts, bind off loosely
and cut the yarn. Slightly dampen the swatch, and pin onto a surface. Take care that the rows and st columns are straight. Let dry. Take measurements after blocking!
Measuring gauge:
Place a ruler along a straight row and count how many sts there are within 4". If half a st is within the 4", make sure to count it! Example: 22st and one half. Use 22.5 sts in the calculations. Measurement at least two different rows up the swatch and calculate the average of sts per 4". Example: 3 rows measured. Bottom, middle and close to the top of the swatch. 22.5 sts, 24 sts, and 23 sts. Add these numbers together and divide the total by 3. The average st count per 4" is 23.1 sts per 4", so round down to 23 sts. Measure the st columns the same way to calculate how many rows fit in 4". Compare these numbers to the pattern gauge. Do they correlate?
- If gauge has fewer sts than the gauge in the pattern, try swatching again with smaller needles.
- If gauge has more sts than the gauge in the pattern, try swatching again with thicker needles.
Once the gauge is exact or extremely close, start the pattern!
